The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is laying the foundations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

Hosting the world's largest sporting celebration is a privilege that will define Queensland on the international stage, driving economic growth, sustainability, connectivity, and healthier, more inclusive communities.

GIICA's role is to deliver a host of venues identified in the Queensland Government’s 2032 Delivery Plan as crucial for the Games and for Queensland’s future.

Our work covers a wide range of projects from Brisbane’s Stadium precinct, to key new infrastructure across the region, and much-needed upgrades to existing venues.

Under Queensland Government legislation, GIICA is tasked with delivering 17 new and upgraded venues, while also monitoring the delivery of two further venues which are being delivered by City of Gold Coast:

GIICA will provide oversight
  1. A new Gold Coast Arena at Southport
  2. An upgraded Gold Coast Hockey Centre at Labrador

Under current planning, community sports and high-performance athletes will benefit from more than 50 new sporting fields of play (courts, fields, pools) through the GIICA venue program.

We work closely with nine Games Delivery Partners whose collective vision, reflected in the Elevate 2042 legacy strategy, is a more sustainable and connected society.

The Games Delivery Partners include all three levels of government, plus the Organising Committee for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia. A collective group responsible for delivering an exceptional Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.

We will also work closely with the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, who are delivering the Athlete Villages and Arenas.

GIICA’s work is informed by the Queensland Government’s 2032 Delivery Plan and our 100 Day Review where we adopted a focused, evidence-based approach to analyse critical Games infrastructure, planning and governance.

The 2032 Delivery Plan maximises the use of existing venues and will meet community needs through good long-term return on investment to deliver wide and lasting social benefits.

The Games will deliver billions of dollars of economic, social and infrastructure benefits to Queensland, Australia and the broader Oceania region. We are excited to contribute to the pride, inspiration and motivation the Games will create, and the global exposure they will bring to our state.

GIICA will continue to carefully listen to the community and expert views as we deliver venues to ensure we have an exceptional Games and Games legacy.

Our work will help ensure support for the Games and a shared desire for their success across Queensland.

We have turned the page from debate to delivery.
