Business opportunities

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will create a pipeline of procurement opportunities and be a catalyst for Queensland businesses to develop and grow.

This includes opportunities through the major infrastructure pipeline outlined in the 2032 Delivery Plan across regional and metropolitan Queensland, and goods and services related to hosting the event.

GIICA are responsible for procuring contracts to ensure the efficient delivery of 17 new and upgraded venues through design and into delivery.

Our procurement will be aligned with the Queensland Government’s ‘Buy Queensland’ procurement approach. This will ensure many Queensland businesses will benefit from Games tender opportunities.

GIICA's Procurement Principles

In line with the Queensland Procurement Policy (QPP), the principles that drive GIICA’s procurement activities are:

Principle 1: Achieve value for money: GIICA will achieve value for money in its procurement activities by considering the following factors:

  • cost-related factors including up-front price, whole-of-life costs and transaction costs associated with acquisition, use, holding, maintenance and disposal
  •  non-cost factors such as fitness for purpose, quality, delivery, service, and support.
  • relevant government economic, ethical, social and environmental objectives and targets.

Principle 2: Apply a 'responsible public procurement' approach: GIICA will apply a 'responsible public procurement' approach by using our  procurement activities to deliver added value for economic, ethical, social and environmental outcomes, consistent with Queensland Government objectives.

Principle 3: Behave ethically, and embed integrity, probity and accountability: GIICA upholds a culture of ethics, integrity, probity and accountability, respecting the trust of all stakeholders including suppliers and the community.

Principle 4: Be leaders in procurement practice: GIICA upholds a culture of continuous improvement in capability and performance.

Principle 5: Collaborate for more effective outcomes: GIICA upholds a culture of collaboration.

Be Procurement Ready

Now is the perfect time to ensure your organisation is informed, prepared, and positioned to succeed. Here are some key steps and resources to help you become procurement ready.

  • Craft a standout capability statement that clearly articulates your value proposition, highlighting your technical expertise, core competencies, and experience that set your business apart.
  • Access tailored business support through programs like Mentoring for Growth and ecoBiz - designed to help you refine strategies and improve operational performance.
  • Expand your network by attending industry events. These are great opportunities to promote your business, exchange ideas, and form strategic partnerships.
  • Sharpen your tendering skills by visiting the Finalising and submitting the tender response page on Business Queensland for essential guidance.

  • Identify skills gaps in how you tender for business and seek ways to address them such as requesting a supplier debriefing following an unsuccessful tender to identify future improvements.
  • Create a business profile on QTenders to receive automatic alerts on Queensland Government tenders relevant to your sector.
  • Stay in the loop with GIICA venue procurement opportunities by registering for update here.
