The delivery program for Games venues has powered through a key milestone with the release of Expressions of Interest (EOI) for four projects across Queensland by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA).
GIICA has gone to market asking to hear from Principal Design Consultants to undertake project design work on these four key community venues – new indoor sports centres at Moreton Bay and Logan, and stadium upgrades at the Sunshine Coast and Barlow Park in Cairns.
The EOIs have been released just one week after legislation was passed by Queensland Parliament locking in GIICA’s role delivering 17 new and upgraded venues identified in the 2032 Delivery Plan.
GIICA’s delivery program at Victoria Park is also moving ahead, with the next level of site investigations set to commence for both the new Brisbane Stadium and the National Aquatic Centre.
The investigations will include environmental studies, geotechnical assessments, community engagement and cultural heritage assessments studies that will inform design and delivery sequencing for these two major venues at the heart of our Games precinct. This work will also inform the location of the Stadium which is yet to be determined.
GIICA Chairman Stephen Conry said the Authority was not wasting a minute ensuring Games preparations were back on track, delivering legacy benefits across Queensland for decades to come.
“Since the 2032 Delivery Plan release, GIICA has shifted from review to delivery and made great strides across all 17 Authority venues,” said Mr Conry. “Planning is well-advanced, bolstered by invaluable technical inputs and expertise from various specialists during the 100 Day Review.
“The many professionals including cost estimators, architects, civil engineers, and quantity surveyors who contributed their insights during the 100 Day Review have enabled GIICA to make gains during this planning and approval phase.
“We are pleased at the certainty the $7.1 billion for Authority Venues has brought to this program and to the legacy for Queensland.
“The assurance in this funding has enabled us to accelerate progress to move into delivery, particularly around the venues which have had EOIs released today - Barlow Park Stadium in Cairns, Logan Indoor Sports Centre, Moreton Bay Indoor Sport Centre and Sunshine Coast Stadium.
“We are also excited to see site investigations set to begin at Victoria Park for both the new Brisbane Stadium and the National Aquatic Centre which will inform design and delivery for these two major venues at the heart of our Games precinct.
“These procurement milestones mark the beginning of a transformation that will define Brisbane’s global identity. We’re not starting from scratch — we’re building on years of planning and community input.
“Together with our Games Delivery Partners across Queensland, Federal and Local Governments, Brisbane 2032, the AOC and Paralympics Australia, we are poised to make remarkable strides and create lasting impact for Queenslanders.”
