Venues and villages

As the third largest capital city in Australia, hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a privilege that will define the state of Queensland for decades to come.

The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is responsible for delivering new and upgraded venues for use before, during and long after the Games to deliver a legacy for all Queenslanders for generations to come.

Explore the venue projects that GIICA are responsible for, as well as other existing or temporary venues earmarked to host events during the Games and sites for Athlete villages.

The Games Authority are currently undertaking a 100 Day Review into Games infrastructure and planning, with the findings to be handed down in March 2025.

Games Venues

All new and upgraded venue projects will be planned and designed to meet the needs of our growing regions and brought forward to be built in time for the Games, not built for the Games.

New and upgraded facilities will be purpose-designed to meet local community participation needs first and foremost, before being converted to Games competition venues in 2032, and then returned to the community with long-lasting benefits. A pipeline of development and construction is being accelerated to deliver venues and infrastructure to support our growing state.

Games venue planning will adhere to the International Olympic Committee’s ‘new norm’ approach – to use predominantly existing or temporary venues, reducing the overall cost of the Games and reducing environmental impacts.

GIICA are responsible for delivering the new and upgraded venues. Shortly before the Games, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee will prepare these new and upgraded venues, plus existing, temporary and non-competition venues for hosting Games events.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games venues and villages program currently includes competition venues for hosting 28 Olympic and 22 Paralympic sports.

Athlete Villages

Athlete Villages are expected to accommodate more than 16,000 athletes and officials during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games and around 8,000 during the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games. All accommodation provided to athletes will be near the competition venues, with the average athlete travel time expected to be less than 20 minutes.

After the Games, three of the villages will provide new permanent dwellings for South East Queensland’s growing population within vibrant mixed-use precincts.
