Barlow Park Stadium is a multi-sport facility and stadium that will receive a major upgrade with better spectator and athlete facilities suited to cater for both major state, national and international events.
The upgrade will see the existing 1,700 seat west stand increase to 5,000 permanent seats. There will also be improvements to athlete, corporate broadcast and spectator facilities. The upgrade will benefit a range of sporting codes with Barlow Park Stadium home to various local rugby league, rugby union, athletics and school sports clubs and users. The stadium offers a premium rectangular pitch and the only International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) standard all-weather athletics track in Cairns and Far North Queensland.
Games use:
Barlow Park Stadium has been identified as a host venue for the football preliminaries and is expected to have a temporary Games spectator capacity of 20,000.
