In short

Toowoomba is stepping into the global spotlight as a potential host city for equestrian events at the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games — and the community is invited to shape what comes next.

The proposed upgrades to the Toowoomba Showgrounds include

  • a new cross-country course
  • new and improved arenas and training areas
  • enhanced stabling, washdown bays and refurbished amenities

These upgrades would support future state and national events and help develop the next generation of Queensland equestrian talent.

Working closely with the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland, Toowoomba Regional Council, Games partners and technical experts, early project planning by GIICA is already underway, including development of a reference design and project scope.

GIICA will be at the Toowoomba Royal Show on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March 2026, sharing project updates and inviting visitors to complete a short survey to help shape the future of the Showgrounds.

Survey questions will include:

  • What are the most important potential benefits to you?
  • What should be prioritised for improving the Toowoomba Showgrounds?
  • If the facilities are upgraded with new courses, arenas, training areas, stables and washing bays, will this increase your use of the Showgrounds equestrian facilities?
  • Do you have any concerns about upgrading the facility or about the venue being used during the Games?

The survey will close 11.59pm AEST on Tuesday 7 April.

The final project scope will be confirmed through the planning and approvals phase, with the community survey work at the Toowoomba Show playing a key role in defining the long-term legacy outcomes. The planning and approvals process for Toowoomba Showgrounds will continue throughout 2026.

The Toowoomba Showground upgrades are part of the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments and will be delivered by GIICA.
