Meet the architects behind the new Brisbane Stadium

Hassell Managing Principal Lucy O'Driscoll and COX Architecture Director Richard Coulson share how their design partnership for the new Stadium came about, and their shared vision for a loved, connected and well‑used Victoria Park.
Designing a city‑defining stadium capable of hosting the world’s biggest sporting and entertainment events is no simple feat.
Creating a venue that not only delivers for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and Queensland’s seasonal sporting and entertainment calendar but also reflects the culture, character and landscape of the city it calls home is an even greater challenge.
That’s why the recently announced Principal Architects for the new Brisbane Stadium bring both local expertise and world‑leading international experience — a partnership capable of delivering an internationally acclaimed 63,000‑seat stadium that embraces the natural topography of Victoria Park and celebrates Queensland’s outdoor lifestyle.
Leading Australian firms COX Architecture and Hassell will partner with Japan’s Azusa Sekkei to lead the design of the iconic and connected centrepiece Stadium in Victoria Park. Their winning concept draws inspiration from the verandahs, cooling breezes and strong connection to nature embodied by Queenslander homes.
